Environmental Responsibility

Home About Us Environmental Responsibility

As  Singapore  advances  its  national  sustainability

agenda through the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and a stronger regulatory push for low-carbon infrastructure, construction firms must transform how they operate. Newcon Builders acknowledges that environmental responsibility is no longer optional, it is a business imperative and a marker of long-term resilience.

Through  our  BUILD  Green  Framework,  we  embed

sustainability into the way we design, construct, and manage our sites. Our goal is not only to comply with evolving regulations but to lead with practical solutions that reduce our environmental footprint, especially in key areas such as energy use, emissions, water, and material consumption.

Newcon Builders’s environmental strategy is underpinned by an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001:2015. This internationally recognised standard provides a structured framework to identify, manage, andmitigateenvironmental impacts across all project sites.

The system is implemented through project- specific Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) that address:

  • Dust and noise control
  • Soil erosion and water runoff management
  • Waste handling and spill response Environmental monitoring and compliance reporting
  •

Each project is supported by a qualified Environmental Control Officer (ECO), who oversees adherence to the EMP and ensures compliance with Singapore’s environmental regulations. The Plan–Do– Check–Act (PDCA) cycle is applied across all sites to promote continuous improvement and responsiveness to evolving risks.

By institutionalizing ISO 14001, Newcon Builders strengthens its operational resilience while aligning with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 and international best practices in sustainable construction

Newcon Builders recognises that climate change introduces both operational and strategic risks for the construction sector. Rising temperatures, intense rainfall, and weather unpredictability can disrupt construction schedules, impact material durability, and pose safety risks to site personnel. These physical risks are particularly relevant for projects with tight timelines and extensive outdoor activities.

In parallel, transitional risks such as stricter environmental regulations, carbon pricing mechanisms, and shifts in stakeholder expectations are increasing the pressure on contractors to adopt lower-carbon construction methods and transparent sustainability practices.

While Newcon Builders’s exposure to such risks remains moderate at present, we are taking steps to strengthen our climate awareness at both the project and corporate levels. This includes early-stage consideration of weather-related constraints and exploring practical opportunities to reduce reliance on carbon-intensive materials. Over time, we aim to align with evolving disclosure frameworks such as ISSB, and enhance our ability to identify, manage, and report climate-related risks in a more structured and data-driven way.
